Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to change the shape of the nose and supporting tissues around the sinus. The benefits to performing a rhinoplasty include improving breathing and opening airways, as well as changing the cosmetic appearance of the nose.
While examining the septum and interior structures of the nose during your sinus consult, our experienced sinus physicians may discuss rhinoplasty in addition to other sinus procedures to alleviate symptoms related to breathing, congestion, and chronic sinus infections.
Rhinoplasty is performed under anesthesia. It typically involves making a small external incision at the base of your nose. Bone and cartilage in the nose is then surgically shaped for the desired outcome, and oftentimes changes are measured in millimeters.
Once surgery is complete, your doctor will recommend appropriate after-care, including bed rest with your head higher than your chest. Congestion post-surgery is normal as your body heals from the surgery. Bleeding and swelling are normal, but should be closely monitored in the days after your surgery.
